June 2025: The Let Them Theory"The moment you say 'Let Them,' you stop giving your power away."-Mel Robbins

Summer is in full swing and within the last week, we’ve gone from the low 80’s to the high 90’s. It’s hot out there! But despite the heat, Summer is still the best in my opinion. A slower pace, outdoor activities, travel, cookouts, and plenty of social gatherings. My favorite time of the year. Recently, I’ve been going on morning walks with my son and our 2 dogs to beat the heat. It’s a great way to start the day and throw on an audiobook, preferably something in the self-help category. Apparently, I’m a little late to the party but I just discovered The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins and it’s really speaking to me right now.

Implementation

"We spend enormous energy trying to control what cannot be controlled."

-Mel Robbins

Let go? No. Let them! As someone who feels like Larry David stuck at the DMV and constantly put in these situations where I’m the only one acting within reason, I can for sure relate. For starters, I know that losing my temper or reacting in any way that’s negative doesn’t do anybody any good. That’s 101. I’m can keep my composure, it’s the dwelling afterwards and trying to understand why simple situations so often get unnecessarily over complicated. As someone who acts as a mediator between two parties for a living, usually in an emotional environment, I’m learning that by holding onto an outcome that’s out of my control and allowing the situation to consume my mind and energy is just me giving up my power. Just saying “let it go” isn’t really addressing the issue, it’s suppressing it. “Let them” however, is a mantra you can repeat and free yourself of the burden of a situation that’s out of your hands.

Joy > Stress

"Your peace comes from within, not from controlling others."

-Mel Robbins

We spend so much time being stressed out without even realizing it. The best thing about summer is there are plenty of opportunities and distractions to take our minds off the things that cause us stress. So, I’m going to make it a point to play more golf and guitar and enjoy time with my family this summer because it’s more important to focus on what brings me joy rather than stress.

Happy 4th of July and I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday next week!
